Mystical Golf Courses – Myrtle Beach

Mystical Myrtle Golf – The National Golf Escape

The Witch, Man-O-War and The Wizard are in the heart of Myrtle Beach and within 15 minutes of Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR), beaches, accommodations, restaurants and other attractions. A short distance from I-95 and other major thoroughfares, Mystical Golf courses are easily accessible. More than two dozen cities – including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, New York and Washington – offer direct flights. Designed by distinguished architect Dan Maples, the only features all three courses share are the number of holes – 18.

For sheer beauty you can’t beat the witch.  Taking your cart from the clubhouse to the front nine you quickly disappear into hundreds of acres of undisturbed wetlands.  No houses or car noise, just alligators, blue herons, and the occasional fish jumping. Sitting next to each other, but separated by a large lake, are The Wizard and Man O’War courses.  With a fitting castle clubhouse, The Wizard is a links style course with tall mounds and deep bunkers.

ManOWar – Water Challenges at Every Hole

Man-O-War is revered for its back-to-back island greens and water features touching every hole. With a commanding 141 slope rating, the par-72, layout is offset by straight-forward shots and excellent, bent-grass greens.

At 6,400 yards from the regular tees, Man O’War is a true test of your gameAnd it’s not just the length, there’s also water in play on every hole.  The water is used to challenge golfers in a variety of ways.  It would be easy to make a course with a dozen long forced carries and narrow fairways, but that’s not what Man O War is.  Some holes have forced carries, but others use the water to limit the length of your drive or force you into a risk/reward situation

The Witch – Natures Best Golf

The Witch sits on 500 acres of tranquil cypress groves and wetlands teeming with flora and fauna. Tactical play is rewarded on the par-71, 6,702-yard layout. With 4,000 feet of bridges wending through swamps (front nine) and rolling hills (back nine), golfers may spy cranes, bald eagles, alligators and black bears.

Claude Pardue, Burlington, North Carolina raised and NC State grad, began his golf career in the Pinehurst area. He then turned his attention to 500 acres of cypress groves, oaks with hanging moss, wetlands, and rolling hills in Myrtle Beach and, along with fellow North Carolinian Dan Maples, created The Witch in 1989.

With 4000 feet of bridges through swamps and pristine habitat, almost every hole is secluded and is surrounded by forest and native flora. The golfer, who quickly realizes the beauty and challenge of the course, is also privy to the native fauna such as cranes and herons, bald eagles and other raptors, alligators and deer, and the occasional black bear. As Pardue stated, “I wanted The Witch to be golf and Mother Nature in perfect harmony.”

The Wizard

Reminiscent of classic, wind-swept links courses in Scotland and Ireland, The Wizard presents deep bunkers, mound-framed fairways and dramatic elevation changes. Trademark stone bridges and an Old-World, castle-style clubhouse add character to the par-72, 6,721-yard shot-maker’s course. Deep bunkers (many of them hidden from view), dry gullies and hidden burns, subtle elevation changes, mound-framed fairways, and fast bent-grass greens are the sorcery at work. Nothing that straight drives, crisp irons, and that wand on the green can’t ward off, of course.
